Our Lady of Kazanaya Stained Glass Window honors the most revered icon in Russian Orthodox Christianity—the Kazanskaya Icon of the Virgin Mary. This sacred artwork is believed to be miracle-working and is still venerated for its divine intercessions and healing power.
According to legend, the Kazan icon was revealed to a 9-year-old girl in a dream where the Virgin Mary guided her to its hidden location. Upon discovery, it became a powerful symbol of protection, miracles, and national identity. The icon inspired Prince Dmitry Mikhaylovich Pozharsky to commission the original Kazan Cathedral on Moscow’s Red Square in 1636.
Although the original cathedral was destroyed, a new one was constructed shortly after. For his devotion and efforts, Prince Pozharsky was awarded the unique title Saviour of the Motherland by Tsar Mikhail I. Today, the Kazanskaya Icon remains a central symbol of hope, healing, and national pride.
