Van Gogh, who influenced modern Expressionism, Fauvism and early abstraction, was a prolific artist who produced all of his work during a 10-year period while only selling one painting during his lifetime. Van Gogh today is a renowned artistic icon.

“Starry Night,” Van Gogh’s most famous piece, was created completely from memory while he was institutionalized. It currently hangs in the Museum of Modern Art in New York City.
